Reflections on Tangled, the movie

 6/28/11

I had this Facebook conversation with Joselyn, the daughter of John's daycare provider, this morning:

Joselyn:  watching tangled with the little man
Me:  Would that be my little man? He loves that movie! :)

Joselyn: yes it would be your little man. we got through about 40 mins. of the movie and then he informed me that he did want to watch the rest because it is "evil" haha

Me: LOL!! Yep, that's my kid. :)

6/20/11

Last night's conversation before bed:

John:  Hey, "night" and "light" rhyme!
Me:  You're right, bud!
John:  What rhymes with "lotion"?
Me: Umm..."motion".
John:  Oh.  What rhymes with "General Grievous"?

I Married an Old Woman

6/20/11

This afternoon, John looked out the back window and saw Steve mowing the lawn and donning his olive green bucket hat (see picture).

John:  Daddy?  Wearing a hat?!  He looks like an old woman!

Bedtime

6/15/11

Mommy, Daddy, and Johnny had a conversation regarding bedtime in the car today.

Mommy:  Hey John, your bedtime is going to be 7:45 from now on, okay buddy?
Daddy:  Why did you tell him that?  He's going to say no to any bedtime, you know that.  Hey John, your bedtime is going to be 11:45 now!
Johnny:  No!  I don't want a nap!
Daddy:  Okay, what time do you want it to be bedtime?
Johnny:  5!

It's a deal, son. :)

On Getting Old

6/15/11

Sadly, my parents' oldest dog passed away last week.  (RIP Sydney!)  John was informed that Sydney died, and has inquired about her death on several occasions since.  Today, the following conversation took place between John and my mom on their weekly library visit.

John:  Mimi, why did Sydney die?
Mimi:  Because she got old, honey.
(John clearly has been struggling with this concept of getting old and then dying.)
John:  Why?
Mimi:  Well, you know how you have a birthday?  Well, Sydney had lots and lots and lots and lots of birthdays and that makes you get very old.
*A long pause while John considers this...*
John:  Did she wear a party hat?

That's Insane...

6/10/11

Aunt Jenny and Grandma Ellen came to visit.  In response to something he showed her, Jenny said, "Wow, John!  That's insane!"  The quiet response from John that followed: "In the membrane!"

(For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's from a song from the 90s that Steve has been singing to John.)

Two?!

6/4/11

John was pretty fascinated with my growing belly and the fact that there was a baby in it.  He would frequently ask to "pet" Andrew, which consisted of lifting my shirt and patting my belly.  Upon return home after having Andrew, John asked to see my belly.  (We had talked about how my belly would be small again after having Andrew.)  He noticed that my belly was NOT very small yet and then proceeded to pat it.

John:  "Why is your belly squishy?"
Me:  "Because Andrew isn't in there anymore."
John:  "But it's big.  I think you have two babies!"

Where Babies Come From

6/3/11

John stayed with Mimi and Pop Pop (my parents) while Steve and I were at the hospital having Andrew.

Mimi and Pop Pop:  "John, where are Mommy and Daddy?"
John:  "They're buying Andrew!"

Up on the Mountain

So to convince John to take a drive up over Mount Anthony (in our very unsuccessful attempt to convince Andrew to finally make an appearance), Steve told John that Darth Vader lived on top in a cave.  John promptly stated, "When we get there, I'm gonna shake his hand, okay?"

Oh, and luckily John fell asleep during the ride so we didn't have to explain why we never saw Darth Vader...

Talk to the Hand. No, Really!

Dinner time.  Steve jokingly tells John to "talk to the hand" and puts his hand up in John's face.

John's response:  "Oh, hello hand!  How are you?"
